Circling into 2025: A New Year’s Mixed Media Inspiration with Lindy’s Gang

Happy New Year!
As we step into 2025, I pray that this year brings you joy, creativity, and endless inspiration. To kick off the year, I’m thrilled to share my latest project for the Lindy’s Gang Facebook Challenge. This month’s theme is all about circles and the gorgeous colors in the January mood board. Let’s dive into how I brought this theme to life in my mixed media journal!

For this project, I wanted to experiment with circular patterns in a unique way. I reached for my favorite Lindy’s Gang Shimmer Sprays in Blushing Polar Bear, Smoky Sapphire, and Apothecary Azure. Instead of spraying directly onto my journal page, I used a circular acrylic stamp block. After spraying color onto the block, I “stamped” it onto my page, moving it in a circular motion to create dynamic and fluid patterns. The result? A beautiful, layered background of overlapping circles. Once the sprays dried, I added even more dimension with additional layers of color.

With the background complete, it was time to add some contrast and detail. I used the PaperArtsy Sara Naumann 45 stamps in white and gray inks to introduce subtle, delicate patterns. The light tones provided just the right amount of texture without overpowering the background.

To anchor the design, I incorporated a bold sentiment from the PaperArtsy Seth Apter 35 stamp set, stamped in Versafine Twilight ink. This sentiment became the focal point of my page, grounding the circular elements.

To bring more interest to the page, I turned to texture paste and the PaperArtsy Sara Naumann 176 stencil. The raised, circular designs added tactile dimension and tied beautifully into the challenge’s theme. Once the paste dried, I added a whimsical flower from Art House Whimsy, mounting it on vellum to make it pop against the layered background. To enhance its texture, I incorporated cheesecloth sprayed with Smoky Sapphire, creating a soft, cohesive blend of materials.

For the finishing touch, I used a watercolor pencil to shade around the texture paste circles, giving them depth and making them stand out even more.

I hope this project inspires you to explore new techniques and join us in this month’s Lindy’s Gang Facebook Challenge. Whether you’re a seasoned mixed media artist or just starting out, this is a great opportunity to experiment with colors, shapes, and textures.

Thank you so much for stopping by today. Wishing you all a wonderful and creative 2025! Let’s make it a year filled with art, exploration, and joy.
